About us
Message from the Representative Director
A paradigm shift in lasers is about to occur with the Photonic-Crystal Surface-Emitting Lasers (PCSELs), invented at Kyoto University in 1999. PCSEL is a revolutionary laser that differs significantly from conventional semiconductor lasers, achieving high-power and high-beam-quality (or, high-brightness) operation. Moreover, various functionalities that are difficult to achieve with other lasers, such as polarization control, beam pattern control, and on-chip beam direction control, have been demonstrated. These achievements suggest that PCSELs break the limitations of conventional lasers and opens up new possibilities as a next-generation laser.
Our PCSEL Research Center was established to accelerate the practical application of PCSELs, a groundbreaking technology originating from Kyoto University, Japan. By bridging academia and industry, we aim to foster innovation and drive the social implementation of PCSEL technology. Looking ahead, we strive to advance PCSEL research and development through collaborative efforts with industry partners. We sincerely invite your support and cooperation in achieving these goals.
